Our Care Home Work
Our Care Home Work
Our work in the community doesn’t stop at camps for children and out of school events. For two solid years we’ve worked within as many of our care homes as we can. Our GSA Community CIC Coach David is still continuing to add more and more care homes onto our list to make sure our work is spread as far out as it can be. We believe that we should be enriching all elderly lives as much as we possibly can. Our care home sessions are uniquely organised and planned to ensure residents are getting the most out of that they can do.
Our elderly deserve to enjoy their lives with dignity, joy and engagement from people outside of their care homes. This is exactly what we do. Even if we arrive at care homes and there is residents that initially don’t want to take part we try our best to ensure that by the end of our session they have at least smiled. And usually, the next session they’re ready to participate. We understand sometimes residents confidence needs building and luckily we know all the tips and tricks to doing this!
We see first hand how much being in care homes and working with residents helps them grow their confidence and motor skills. But we also recognise that there is so much more to do. This is why we set up our GSA Community CIC. David, one of our best coaches is continuously pushing his body to the limits to try and raise as much money as he can to keep us in local care homes. We don’t charge care homes for our sessions, they’re all free of charge. But to continue to do this we rely on our fundraisers. The Bears Den Team at Grassroots take on 5K, 10K and 20K walks to raise much needed funds.
In September David is taking on his biggest challenge yet, he will take on the Way of the Roses cycle route. Starting at one side of the country (Morecombe) and finishing at the other (Bridlington). In total… 170 miles. With the donations collected from this fundraiser we can allow ourselves extra time within both our usual care homes and even new ones. Here is our link to donate.
Having carers come to us and ask us personally to conduct sessions within their facility is so rewarding but we really need the funds to do so. We’re reaching out to anyone that may be able to help. Whether it be a small donation to David’s crowdfunding or if you’re a business wanting to help sponsor our work. We’d love to hear from you. As a small business and community based charity every little helps so much. We strive to help our communities the best we can. This is why we offer our Grassroots in the Park sessions and our North East plan events completely free. We strive to ensure that no matter your gender, background, income or ability we have something for you. A session, an event, an after school club, camp or care home session.
